On the occasion of Mother's Day being celebrated next Sunday, May 9, the leadership of the ESCEG, the PCC and the union want to convey a special congratulation to all the mothers of the ESCEG, an example of consecration, dedication and sacrifice. To you who, in the midst of this pandemic, have known how to continue on your front line assuming with high responsibility the different tasks that are assigned to you, you who have endorsed the agreements of the 8th congress of the PCC, who together with the people of Cuba defend our Revolution You are an example of Mariana, Celia, Vilma and many other heroines who fought tirelessly so that today we have a socialist Cuba.
Those who in 1914 in various States of the North American Union, locally adopted the decision to honor the Mothers on the Second Sunday of May, were not mistaken, placing a red carnation if she lived or white if she had died in the bodice or buttonhole of the lapel. At that time it was doubted that Cubans would host a celebration of this nature.
Outraged with such an approach, a group of young people between 25 and 30 years old, members of the Literary Tertulia of the Instruction and Recreation Center, founded in 1882 by Fermín Valdés Domínguez, wrote to Muñoz to impose on him the purpose of promoting the celebration in Cuba on Mother's Day.
With a pleasant surprise on May 9, 1920, this day was celebrated for the first time in Cuba at the Liceo de Santiago de Las Vegas, and over the years, this initiative became a Sublime Tradition throughout the National Territory to this day.
