Minister of Science, Technology and Environment exchanges with members of the Cuban Academy of Sciences

On May 10, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Dr. C Eduardo Martínez Díaz exchanges with members of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC) from all over the country, most of them connected by video conferencing system. Dr. Cs was present. Luis Velázquez Pérez, President of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC). As a Full Academician, the Rector of the Higher School of State and Government Staff (ESCEG), Dr. C. Mercedes Delgado Fernández was present at the event. Among the topics discussed were the transformation of the Science, Technology and Innovation System (SCTI) of Cuba, the elimination of the bureaucratic burden in the execution of projects, financing and investments, the differences in the modes of action and obtaining results of the different sciences, the priorities and strategic projects of Research, Development and innovation of the country, the need to create state companies from scientific groups that have the capacity to close cycles and do business, the role of social sciences and the humanities, the policy of attention to demographic dynamics, the dissemination of scientific results, the economic situation of the country.
The CITMA Minister highlighted that projects in the current circumstances must be aimed at solving crucial problems and that, from their design, they define potential sources of financing, international collaboration, who produces, who applies and achieve strategic projects that close cycles. Among the priorities of the Science, Technology and Innovation System, he mentioned the increase in foreign exchange earnings to the country. This means favoring projects aimed at creating new exportable products or services, making them more competitive or gaining more markets. The other two priorities of the SCTI would be energy generation and food production and he pointed out, there are themes that are transversal, such as digital transformation. In the ESCEG, those innovation projects linked to the country's priorities and defended by the cadres who study the study programs are identified with a view to their monitoring, assessment of impacts and the carrying out of new research.
