Good practice visit to the BioCubaFarma business group by students of the IX Specialty in Business Management and Administration

On May 23, students from the IX edition of the postgraduate specialty in Business Management and Administration of the Higher School of State and Government Officers (ESCEG) visited the BioCubaFarma Business Group. The Group is made up of 32 companies in Cuba, 80 production lines, 21 R&D+i entities, 16 companies abroad with more than 1,000 employees. It supplies 996 products to the National Market, 757 of them to the National Health System.
During this visit, the good practices of science, technology and innovation management were presented by Dr. C. Rolando Pérez Rodriguez, who served as Director of Science and Innovation and is currently a scientific advisor to the Group. In his career, he was the founder of the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM), Director of Research and representative of the Cuban-Chinese joint venture.
The presentation “BioCubaFarma: A Global Vision” addressed: the background, the experiences of the Scientific Pole, the Cuban biopharmaceutical industry, the strategic objectives, the Production Systems with High Standards of Good Production Practices, the globalization of operations, international insertion, technology transfers, the external business scheme, internationalization of R&D&i, the integration of the Biopharmaceutical Industry with the National Health System, how to manage innovation in times of health emergency?, the University-Company alliance: the path to disruptive innovation, the Extramural Collaboration networks, the 2023 project portfolio, Biopharmaceutical R&D&i projects by therapeutic area, Biopharmaceutical R&D&i projects for their innovative capacity, impact products in Covid-19, Covid-19 Vaccine program,
-The presentation concluded by pointing out the following aspects:
-The biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical technology industry is a high-tech industry based on knowledge.
-Collaboration networks in Cuba and abroad are a necessity for the productive transformation and international insertion of the business group
-Organizational and financial innovation is an essential complement to technological innovation to achieve economic and social impact
-The experiences and results of this industry could contribute to the science and innovation management system in other sectors of the country's economy.
Finally, reference was made to the phrase: "Establishing a government management model with a preventive approach, supported by science and oriented towards innovation can contribute to sustainable development" Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, M. Each student introduced themselves and presented their research topic and innovation proposal, which facilitated the exchange with the speaker. Representing ESCEG were the Rector, Dr. C. Mercedes Delgado Fernández, professor of the Basic Innovation Management course, and the Methodologist, Dr. C. Lydia Garrigó Andreu, professor of the Strategic Foresight course.
